Track condition
People travelling through rail are always curious about the track conditions as sadly many incidents are reported often that raises concerns over passenger security. Latest reports suggest tracks between Rohri and khairpur junction are frequently altered by Local dacoits and mismanagement at these junction is causing problems for the staff. The area surrounding these junction is also famous for looting and associated with dacoits and in such circumstances track conditions needs to be optimal. Excessive heat has also impacted tracks in southern Punjab and upper Sindh which may effect schedules and need attention before hectic season.
Outdated vehicles
Railways inventory of boogies and engines has crossed the safe duration of use more than twice. With some 50+ year old boogies still on track. The outdated engines and trains not only makes the passengers uncomfortable but also adds up to loss due to inefficiency and raising expenses. Railways has recently presented its problems amid criticism to federal government about the need to update its inventory however no response from federal government suggests that outdated machinery is all the public has to rely on.
Pakistan Railways Loss
There are 77000 salaried employees in the railways and those who will retire would also be in lakhs, from 2015 to 2020, our railways suffered a loss of 144 billion, the reason being the pension of 5 lakh employees, in 2020 alone, the railways lost 44 billion and out of this, 36 billion was spent only on pension. The losses keep on adding up without any sustaining policy. Amid growing private transport network reliance on Pakistan railways has decreased but is still vital for goods movement around the country however the present conditions won’t be able to sustain this system.
