VPN Declared Haram : Only Registered Will Be Considered Halal

Since a long time, various experiments have been done in Pakistan. At first, there were talks of installing firewalls, then we saw slow internet speed. After that, people started using VPNs, and then the government also decided to crack down on VPNs. In a chronological sequence, our army chief, while addressing, said that the spread of wrong information is a big challenge, and it also becomes a cause of useless use; it is necessary to take action against it. On the very next day, a letter was written to PTA saying that illegal VPNs should be stopped, and soon after, a fatwa came from the head of the Islamic Nazriya Council saying that the use of VPN for spreading unethical and illegal filth, Virtual Private Network, is illegal from a Sharia point of view. All the events occurring in perfect sequence according to some well-designed script typical of Pakistani affairs. They gave a fatwa, and the debate on it started once again in the whole country.

On the other hand, another scholar, a renowned religious scholar, Maulana Tariq Jameel, has declared this statement of the Islamic Nazariya Council as wrong. He said that in this way, even a mobile phone is haraam because so many things can be viewed in it without a VPN, so this fatwa is not right. This may be a narrow mental point of view; it is not a correct decision, but at the same time he said that there must be some logic behind it. He said that he does not agree, but it is possible that he has some reason for this.

The fatwa of the Nazariya Council says that the use of VPN is un-Islamic in my view, and it is very unfortunate. What are the political and economic effects of the ban on VPN on our country, and whose opinion has weight in all these things? It is a matter of great regret that such policy decisions are being made in Islamabad. Our work and our international community are suffering a lot. The world is moving ahead with leaps and bounds in the 21st century. We want to go from the 21st century to the 19th century, and our ruling class is so corrupt that they are so wrong that they want to destroy the entire economy for their short-term survival and do not want to step in the direction in which the world is going. Now this Islamic Council, the Nazariya Council, has issued a fatwa. It means they were sleeping. Now they got up and issued a fatwa, and then they told Maulana Tariq Jameel that this fatwa was wrong. He issued another fatwa saying that no, this fatwa is absolutely wrong. It looks like a group of idiots, sitting at the top, are creating policies that are making Pakistan a laughingstock. Obviously, the Islamic Nazariya council has been ordered to give such a fatwa in the context of government policy. We use Islam where we see it fits our needs of the time, and such decisions are heartbreaking.

We don’t want to step in the direction the world is heading. Working spaces are being built; call centers are being built. This is the potential for the future of your youth who are getting trained in computer sets and technology institutes. And sitting at home, sitting on desks, thousands of boys and girls are doing this, they are not watching, but they are not watching films, they are creating content, exporting this, and our rulers have gone crazy. First, they slow down the internet; I don’t know how much damage has been done with it. After that, they don’t let the internet function properly.
Pakistan has been embarrassed internationally. We have to face many problems, especially our freelancers; they have stopped getting work from abroad, and many youths are disheartened by this. Similarly, a group of journalists was organized in the US Embassy, and there the US Tech Think Tank official clearly told them that it is not right to put a long-term life at stake for gaining political power in Pakistan. He said that we have such reports, due to which people are facing many big problems. But in Pakistan, only the power hold of the establishment nexus is the priority, and it could go to any extent to keep themselves in power.
